Family - James & Ashley

On their specially selected date of July 7, 2007, neary a year following the public announcement of their engagement, James married Miss Ashley Hartman at Hollins University’s DuPont Chapel becoming Lieutenant and Mrs. James Moser.

Ashley was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia where she attended elementary and secondary school and where she met James in December of 2000 during the City’s local Christmas Celebrations.  Ashley graduated with the coveted International Baccalaureate diploma from William Fleming Senior High School in June of 2004 and was immediately offered multiple academic scholarships to several of Virginia’s top universities. Eventually, Ashley selected the University of Mary Washington due to their unique programme in Historic Preservation.

Though James and Ashley began dating while in high school it was after a courtship of nearly seven years that James proposed to Ashley upon returning from their summer voyage to Britain in 2006 which included a visit to Ashley’s ancestral homeland and family castle on the Isle of Mull in Lochbuie, Scotland.


Ten months following their wedding, Ashley having completed the requirements for a BA at the level of Magna Cum Laude, a semester early, and formally received her undergraduate degree from Mary Washington on May 10, 2008.  Since taking her degree Ashley has taken an active part in world of education and the field of Historic Preservation.  For example, Ashley attended the 35th Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference held in historic Colonial Williamburg as well as presented her Independent Study, "Painted Past: A History of Painted Wall Signs," at the 2008 Virginia Social Science Association Conference held at the Virginia Military Institute.


Family - James' Parents

James' parent Ira Edgar and Virginia Lee Moser (nee Poe), both natives of Virginia share simailar backgrounds as well as current careers and interests. James's father, raised in rural Giles County received letters in Track and Football in high school and was noted for these activities as well as his developing interest in teaching.  This interest eventually lead Edgar to take three degrees and work in the educational field as both a teacher and principle for now over thirty years. 

James' mother, Virginia, was born in Lynchburg and later moved to Salem where, she too was involved in a number of school events in her youth.  Trained in culinary arts along with a number of crafts during her high school days, Virginia and was able to absorb a wealth of knowledge during those years she would certainly use throughout her life and with her future students as well as her son.   Married June 6th 1981, the couple has seen both their 20th and 25th Wedding Anniversaries on which occasions Edgar and Virginia celebrated by taking voyages to visit family friends in Normandy, France.
